Segel told Goldstein that he had to at least pitch it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had pitched the project, generating interest from other major actors. Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him on the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was still excited..
But where is the humor?
When I watched the first episode of this series, I thought I was watching a reality show about a small village of crazies whose residents were battling an epidemic of Tourette syndrome. Imagine my surprise when I learned from a friend that Shrinking was intended to be a comedy series. The plots lack the wit of, say, an average episode of Gilligan’s Island.
His lips move, but that’s about it
Acting certainly does not add to the enjoyment. The star, Jason Segel, has a range of acting that goes from showing his happy dazed face to his sad confused face to his dazed face. This is in stark contrast to Harrison Ford’s performance, which could be classified as “mono-faced”; performance.
We would have expected more from the man who single-handedly invented a new field of comedy: the comedy of piloting small aircraft
The rest of the cast needs no acting skills as their sole purpose is to deliver a simple line, mostly out of context, meant to give the show a smooth “weirdness”; veneer Unfortunately, the delivered replicas are neither clever nor funny, leaving the show with a peeling imitation of wood held by duct tape veneer.
